Muurla – Finnish Design since 1974
Muurla began in 1974 as a glass factory producing hand-blown glass in the Finnish village of Muurla, founded by Jaakko Uoti, Juhani Ruuskanen, Kalevi Lystimäki, as well as glassmakers Pertti and Olli Kähönen, and designer Tauno Wirkkala. The glass manufactory is located between Helsinki and Turku, and due to its location on a major transport route, it quickly became a popular rest stop where visitors could watch glass being made.
The former glassworks has since evolved into an internationally renowned design company. The foundation for everything Muurla produces lies in the company's roots as a glassworks; the vision has always been to create beautiful and functional products that bring joy. Muurla has now specialized in additional materials such as enamel and Finnish plywood. Since 2009, Muurla has collaborated with Moomin, offering a wide range of products with Moomin motifs, including Little My, Snufkin, Moominmamma, and Moominpappa – complemented by the popular characters from Pippi Longstocking.
