Starry Night – a night with the Moomins

Under a large full moon and a sky full of stars, the Moomins have gathered with family and friends to spend the night together. This is precisely the calm, atmospheric scene depicted on the Muurla Starry Night mug.

The midnight blue motif with white elements fits the theme beautifully. It feels wintery and Nordic without being an explicitly Christmas-themed motif.

0.8 liters – significantly more than a normal mug

At 0.8 liters, this Muurla mug is a truly large vessel. Anyone who enjoys a large cup of coffee or tea will get a correspondingly large amount of content here. Muurla itself refers to it as a generously dimensioned mug.

Its size also makes it versatile: the mug can also be used as a bowl for soup or other small meals and snacks. This additional use is particularly practical when camping or eating outdoors.

Enamel – light and robust

The mug consists of a carbon steel core with a double enamel coating. This combines a comparatively low weight with the robust construction typical of enamel.

At around 260 grams, the 0.8-liter mug remains easy to handle despite its size. It is therefore suitable not only for the kitchen table but also for camping, picnics, or other outdoor activities.

The mug is dishwasher safe.

Important: Enamelware is not microwave safe.

My assessment

This mug is interesting to me primarily because of its size. 0.8 liters is a completely different category than the usual 0.25 or 0.37-liter Muurla mugs. If you like large mugs, you get a lot of capacity here.

I find the additional possible use particularly nice: this is not just an oversized mug. It works just as well for soup, stew, or other small meals. Added to that is the very atmospheric Starry Night motif – a calm Moomin scene that brings a lot of atmosphere even beyond its primary function as a drinking vessel.
