Friendship – friendship in the world of the Moomins

Friendship is one of the great themes in Tove Jansson's Moomin world. The Moomins do not live alone in Moominvalley – friends and companions are a natural part of their lives and their stories.

Muurla takes up exactly this theme with the Friendship cutting and serving board. The pink and black design gives the board a modern, graphic character.

Two sides – two designs

The special thing about Muurla's Chop & Serve Boards is the double-sided design. The front and back feature different Moomin motifs.

This not only gives you two different looks, but you can also use the board in a very practical way: food is prepared and cut on one side, then the board is turned over and the other side is used for serving.

Cut and serve directly

At 25 x 32 cm, the board is a very practical size. Cut fruit, prepare cheese, slice bread, or arrange small snacks – afterwards, everything can be placed on the table directly on the board.

For cheese, bread, fruit, or small appetizers in particular, I find this combination of cutting and serving board extremely practical. You don't need any additional serving dishes, and the Moomin motif really comes into its own on the table.

Made of Finnish birch veneer – handmade in Finland

Muurla produces its Chop & Serve Boards in Finland using Finnish birch veneer. The surface is coated to protect the wood during daily use.

This is definitely worth mentioning with Muurla: while the brand now works with very different materials and production locations, these cutting and serving boards are among the products that are actually manufactured in Finland.

Dishwasher safe

Despite the birch veneer, the Chop & Serve Board is dishwasher safe according to Muurla. The protective coating makes cleaning extremely straightforward.

Especially for a cutting board that comes into contact with food regularly, I find this a real advantage in daily use.

My assessment

The Chop & Serve Boards are among the more interesting Muurla products for me because they combine several things: Finnish birch wood, production in Finland, two different Moomin designs, and a function that is truly sensible.

I particularly like the idea of preparing food on one side and then simply turning it over to serve on the other. This works brilliantly for cheese, bread, fruit, or small snacks.

And at 25 x 32 cm, the Friendship Board is a very good everyday size for me: large enough to actually work on and serve from, but still compact enough that it doesn't take up unnecessarily much space in the kitchen.
