The Multiholk – the birdhouse that started it all for Wildlife Garden

The Multiholk Swedish Cottage is not just another product in the Wildlife Garden range – it is the beginning of the Swedish company's history.

The idea was as simple as it was unusual: why should a birdhouse only be used for a few months of the year? Together with her husband Robert, Helena Nobel developed a house that combines two functions. In the spring, it serves as a nest box for birds, and after the breeding season, it can be converted into a bird feeder in just a few simple steps.

This idea led to the creation of the Multiholk and, eventually, Wildlife Garden in Båstad in southern Sweden.

A nest box in the spring

As a nest box, the Multiholk was designed with more than just aesthetics in mind. Inside, there are ventilation holes and climbing notches that help the young birds reach the exit hole.

From the very beginning, Wildlife Garden has combined two things that remain typical of the brand to this day: a decorative product and a well-thought-out function for wildlife.

A bird feeder with a 2-liter capacity in autumn and winter

After the breeding season, the Multiholk can be converted into a bird feeder. The integrated feed container holds up to 2 liters of bird seed.

This allows the Swedish cottage to stay in the garden practically all year round: as a home for a bird family in spring and summer, and as a feeding station in the cold season.

A little red Swedish cottage for your garden

The design is based on the classic red wooden houses of Sweden. A red facade, white details, and a dark roof make this functional birdhouse a little piece of Sweden for your garden or terrace.

It is precisely this combination that was one of the reasons for the Multiholk's success: you don't have to choose between a functional nest box and a beautiful garden object.

Flexible mounting

The Multiholk can be mounted on a wall, a tree, or a suitable post. A wall bracket and the necessary screws are included.

Wood is a natural material

The Multiholk is made of wood and treated with water-based paint. Since wood is a natural product, the structure and surface may show slight variations. Such small deviations are part of the material and make each house unique.

Wildlife Garden from Båstad

Wildlife Garden was founded by Helena and Robert Nobel in Båstad, Sweden. Helena shapes the design and product development, while Robert's deep interest in birdlife was essential to the development of the bird products from the very beginning.

Over the years, the first Multiholk has grown into an extensive range covering birds, animals, garden, and home – from bird feeders to the famous DecoBirds and the hand-carved DecoHooks.

My assessment

To me, the Swedish cottage is the quintessential Wildlife Garden classic. I have been familiar with the Multiholk and Wildlife Garden since my previous work in the Scandinavian specialty trade and have followed the brand's development for many years.

What I still love about this product today is the original idea: it looks like a small Swedish house but isn't just garden decor. A nest box and bird feeder have been consistently combined in one product.

There are now many similar birdhouses on the market. However, for me, you can still recognize the original Wildlife Garden design by its thoughtful construction, clean aesthetic, and the fact that the function for the birds was part of the design from the very start.
