A small wooden box with a wren

With this box, Wildlife Garden combines practical storage with the wildlife that has played a central role since the Swedish brand’s inception.

The round box is made of American cherry wood. Sitting on the lid is a detailed, hand-carved wren made of linden wood – one of Europe’s smallest yet most characteristic birds.

With a diameter of 11 cm, the box is compact enough for a bedside table, desk, or shelf and offers space for jewelry and other small personal items.

American cherry wood with a natural grain

Wildlife Garden uses American cherry wood for the box. The wood is characterized by its warm tones and a vivid, natural grain.

It is precisely this grain that ensures no two boxes look exactly alike. Variations in color and wood structure are not defects, but part of the character of the natural material.

Over time, the color of the cherry wood can also change and evolve.

Traditional wooden construction without nails or screws

I find the construction of the box particularly interesting. Wildlife Garden draws inspiration from traditional "shrink pots."

In this ancient woodworking technique, the wooden parts are joined together without the use of nails or screws. The design allows the natural material to move as humidity levels change.

As a result, there is much more craftsmanship behind this seemingly simple round box than one might suspect at first glance.

The wren – small, round, and unmistakable

A hand-carved wren sits on the lid. Typical of this small bird are its compact, rounded body shape and, above all, the tail that is held almost vertically.

Wildlife Garden has been working intensively on the depiction of various bird species for many years. That is why they do not use generic bird shapes for this little wren, but rather capture the species' characteristic features.

Practical storage that deserves to be seen

The wooden box is suitable for small items you like to keep close at hand: for example, rings and other jewelry or small personal keepsakes.

The advantage over a purely functional storage box is obvious: this box does not need to be hidden away in a drawer. The cherry wood, natural grain, and the little wren make it a decorative home accessory in its own right.

My assessment

I particularly like the wren box because Wildlife Garden didn't just take a pre-made wooden box and stick a bird on it. The material, construction, and animal motif were conceived as a single, cohesive product.

American cherry wood for the box, linden wood for the hand-carved bird, and the construction inspired by traditional shrink pots are details not immediately apparent in such a small storage item.

And the wren fits in perfectly for me. It is small, slightly rounded, and instantly recognizable with its perky tail. This gives the otherwise very simple wooden box exactly the touch of "Wildlife Garden" that it needs.
