A mallard duck that also opens bottles

At first glance, the mallard could be just another small bird figurine from the Wildlife Garden collection. Only when you turn it over does its second function become apparent: a stainless steel bottle opener is embedded in the underside.

This allows the mallard to simply be placed back on the table after use. The metal opener disappears from view, turning a practical kitchen tool back into a decorative wooden figure.

Hand-carved from wood

The mallard is hand-carved from wood. The shape, plumage, and the characteristic silhouette of the swimming bird are carefully crafted.

My assessment

This bottle opener beautifully showcases another side of Wildlife Garden. The precise observation of birds, which we know from their feeders and DecoBirds, is combined here with an everyday household item.

I find the hidden stainless steel opener particularly well-executed. If you place the mallard on the table, you initially see only the hand-carved bird. Only when a bottle needs to be opened does the small wooden figurine become a kitchen tool.

For me, this is the exact kind of gift item that makes sense: decorative, artisanal, and actually useful.
