A tiny one among European birds

The goldcrest is one of the smallest birds in Europe. Wildlife Garden aptly describes the small, spherical bird as the "baby of the bird world."

The goldcrest is small, lively, and often not easy to spot. It spends much of its time in treetops, searching between branches and needles for small insects and spiders.

The little golden crown

The most striking feature of the otherwise rather modestly colored bird is located on its head: the bright yellow-golden crown stripe.

The goldcrest owes its name precisely to this feature.

The scientific genus name *Regulus* is also a perfect fit: it translates roughly as "little king." The tiny bird doesn't just wear its little golden crown in its common name.

Small and almost spherical

My assessment

The goldcrest is interesting to me precisely because of its size. After the large falcons, owls, or the mallard, this is a DecoBird where "small" truly belongs to the bird species.

35 g in weight is, of course, not much—but that is exactly the information the customer should have. Then they won't expect a heavy wooden figure and will immediately understand that they are receiving a small, delicate DecoBird.

And despite its modest coloring, the goldcrest has a clear identifying feature with its golden-yellow crown. A small bird with a little crown—that’s really all the story this DecoBird needs.
