My assessment

To me, the Northern wheatear is a nice counterpoint to the conspicuously colored DecoBirds. It needs neither the yellow of an oriole nor the orange-red breast of a robin to be interesting.

With this bird, its character lies more in its form and behavior. Especially its upright posture and that typical bobbing after landing are details that suddenly turn what might initially seem like an inconspicuous little bird into a personality all its own.

At 11.7 cm long and 45 g, it is a small, lightweight DecoBird. That is precisely why it fits well in a group with other European bird species—without needing to visually dominate everything between them.
