A nightingale in mid-song

With this nightingale, Wildlife Garden has chosen a particularly fitting moment. The head is slightly raised and the beak is open – the little wooden bird is depicted in the middle of a song.

This is perhaps more fitting for the nightingale than for almost any other bird species. Its appearance is rather understated, while its voice is extraordinary.

Famous for its voice, not its plumage

The nightingale does not need a bright yellow breast, a blue head, or spectacular plumage markings. Its feathers consist predominantly of inconspicuous brown and beige tones.

My assessment

For me, the nightingale is a good example of why Wildlife Garden does not simply choose the most colorful birds for the DecoBirds. In reality, the nightingale is quite unspectacular in color – and yet almost everyone knows its name.

The crucial element here is the posture. The open beak and the slightly raised head immediately tell you what this bird is all about: its voice.

I like this much better than trying to make the nightingale artificially spectacular. Wildlife Garden leaves it as it is – a rather inconspicuous little bird with an extraordinary song.
