Moominpappa discovers a new life

On this green Moomin mug, Moominpappa sits high up in a tree, enjoying his new, carefree life. The motif is based on Tove Jansson's comic “Moomin Begins a New Life” from 1956.

In this story, a traveling prophet appears in Moominvalley. His idea of happiness consists of breaking free from fixed rules and obligations and living more in harmony with nature again. The residents of Moominvalley are inspired by this – and Moominpappa moves into a tree without further ado.

Free as a bird

The motif has a wonderfully relaxed feel: Moominpappa sits in his tree, far away from everyday life, and enjoys his newfound freedom.

I find this thought in particular very beautiful. Moomin stories often tell of adventures, but just as often about the importance of taking time for yourself. This mug is a reminder of exactly that: just sit back, enjoy your favorite drink, and don't think about what needs to be done next.

0.4 liters – plenty of room for a large coffee

With 0.4 liters, this Moomin mug is one of the larger Arabia Moomin mugs. It is ideal for a large coffee, café au lait, tea, hot chocolate, or milk.

I find the size especially practical for my morning coffee. For those who find the classic 0.3 liters a bit tight, this offers noticeably more content without the mug looking clunky.

The classic Arabia shape

The shape is based on Kaj Franck's timeless Teema series. Its clear and functional design provides a calm frame for the detailed illustrations.

The interplay of the bold green color and the cream-white and black drawings creates an unmistakably Nordic look. The mug is striking enough for a Moomin motif, yet remains simple and clean.

Vitreous porcelain – made for everyday life

The mug is made of vitreous porcelain and is designed for daily use. It is dishwasher-safe as well as suitable for the microwave, oven, and freezer.

This makes it a true everyday mug that doesn't just have to be taken out of the cupboard for special occasions.

My assessment

I like this mug very much because it shows a slightly different side of Moominpappa. Usually, he is known as a family man, adventurer, and storyteller. Here, he simply does something completely different: he sits in a tree and enjoys his freedom.

I also find the combination of 0.4 liters and the bold green coloring to be a success. For me, this is a very lovely mug for anyone who likes to drink a large coffee in the morning – and wants to be reminded occasionally that you don't always have to take everything so seriously.
