Sweethearts – Moomintroll and Snorkmaiden
The Moomins are not just about adventures and life in Moominvalley. They are also about friendship, infatuation, and the small emotional storms that relationships sometimes bring with them.
The Sweethearts mug by Moomin by Arabia is dedicated precisely to this special relationship between Moomintroll and Snorkmaiden. The illustrations show the two in various situations, capturing the humorous yet loving side of their relationship.
A little story on the mug
The illustrations in the Sweethearts collection are based on several comic stories by Tove Jansson: "Moomin under Sail", "Conscientious Moomin", and "Snorkmaiden Goes Rococo".
This means the mug is not just a romantic Moomin motif. The images capture different moments from the couple's relationship – with closeness, small misunderstandings, and, of course, reconciliation.
That is exactly what makes the Sweethearts mug so charming to me: the two are not a perfect couple, but two characters with their own ideas and feelings. And that is precisely why their relationship feels so human.
Lilac and cream – romantic, but not kitschy
The combination of the soft lilac tone and the warm cream-colored base color fits the theme of the mug perfectly. The coloring is calm and Nordic, leaving enough room for Tove Jansson's illustrations.
With 0.3 liters, the mug is also a practical size for coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or other favorite drinks.
The classic Arabia shape
The clear shape of the Moomin by Arabia mugs is deliberately kept timeless. It combines the characteristic Moomin illustrations with functional Scandinavian tableware culture and can therefore be used without any issues every day.
Vitreous porcelain – made for everyday life
The Sweethearts mug is made of vitreous porcelain and is designed for daily use. It is dishwasher-safe and suitable for the microwave, oven, and freezer.
This makes it just as suitable for your daily coffee as it is for a special moment for two.
My assessment
For me, the Sweethearts mug is one of those Moomin mugs where the motif is particularly well-suited for a gift. Moomintroll and Snorkmaiden are clearly the focus here – and the story behind it makes the mug more personal than a simple character motif.
The soft lilac is appeal
