Sweethearts – Moomintroll and Snorkmaiden

In "Sweethearts," Moomintroll and Snorkmaiden and their not-always-simple relationship take center stage. After all, in Moominvalley, love isn't just about romance – it also includes arguments, reconciliation, trust, and forgiveness.

The illustrations in the Sweethearts collection are based on scenes from Tove Jansson's Moomin comics. One of the stories even begins with a misunderstanding: Moomintroll initially mistakes Snorkmaiden’s diary for a ship's logbook. When Snorkmaiden finds out, an argument ensues, of course – which eventually ends with a hug and reconciliation.

Ø 35 cm – a proper serving tray

With a diameter of 35 cm, the round Sweethearts tray offers enough space to carry several cups, glasses, and smaller plates together.

This makes it perfect for breakfast, coffee and cake, a quick fika, or evening drinks and snacks.

The round shape also makes the tray a beautiful serving surface on the table.

Plywood with a protected surface

The body of the tray is made of plywood. The surface is finished with a top layer combining resin and melamine.

This creates a smooth, easy-care surface that really showcases the large-scale Sweethearts motif to its best advantage.

A beautiful home accessory, even without dishes

The Sweethearts tray doesn’t have to disappear into a cupboard after use. Thanks to the large motif featuring Moomintroll and Snorkmaiden, it also works beautifully as a decorative base on a dining table, coffee table, or sideboard.

The combination of lilac, white, and the Moomin illustrations makes the tray a distinct pop of color.

Sweethearts – Love as the theme for 2026

Sweethearts is one of the special Moomin by Arabia collections for 2026. The occasion is the 30th anniversary of the well-known Moomin Love mug.

For this reason, Moomin Arabia is dedicating the entire year of 2026 to the theme of love. Sweethearts tells the story of the relationship between Moomintroll and Snorkmaiden, while the concurrently released Loving Care collection focuses on the affectionate and caring side of the entire Moomin family.

Care instructions

The tray should be cleaned with a damp cloth and is not dishwasher safe.

Important: According to Moomin Arabia, the surface is not suitable for direct contact with food over 40 °C. Please serve very hot food on suitable dishes on the tray rather than placing it directly on the surface.

My assessment

For me, 35 cm is a very good size for a round tray. It is large enough to actually carry several cups or a complete small breakfast, but still handy enough for daily use.

What I particularly like about the Sweethearts motif is that Moomin Arabia didn't just put together any romantic illustration. The scenes are drawn from Tove Jansson's stories about Moomintroll and Snorkmaiden and show their relationship with all its different facets.

And on a large round tray, the illustration gets much more space than on a mug or bowl. If you like the Sweethearts motif, you'll get one of the products here that showcases the story particularly well.
