Rebel Club – Moominpappa and the secret society

A new trend is emerging in Moominvalley: secret societies. And naturally, Moominpappa wants in. In the true spirit of rebellion, he founds the "Rebel Club" – an association dedicated to freedom and breaking the rules.

The irony: the Rebel Club ends up making plenty of rules of its own. It is precisely this contradiction that makes the story so typical of Tove Jansson's humor.

A mini-comic scene around the mug

On one side, Moominpappa and his friends are sitting together with top hats and pipes; above them reads "Let's simply form a Rebel Club." On the other side, the members parade through the night under a starry sky.

The bold colors – dark blue, sunshine yellow, and orange – and the large "Rebel Club" lettering make this one of the most striking Moomin mugs of recent years.

0.4 l – the large Moomin mug

Rebel Club mugs have a capacity of 0.4 l, making them larger than the classic 0.3 l Moomin mug. A great size for a large milky coffee, a cappuccino, or a pot of tea for one.

The mug is made of vitro porcelain. It is dishwasher and microwave safe – a mug for every day. On the bottom, there is a special stamp featuring the Rebel Club and Moomin Arabia logo.

Rebel Club – the new comic collection from Moomin Arabia

Rebel Club is a new collection from Moomin Arabia based directly on Tove Jansson's early Moomin comics. The illustrations are bold and playful, with humor and drama pulled from the original comic strips.

The heart of the collection is four 0.4 l mugs: Rebel Club, Boss Lady, Party Queue, and Talk It All Out. Each mug is named after a story, and there are five comic strips featured across the four motifs. According to Moomin Arabia, the collection is set to be expanded with further products next year.

Care instructions

The mug is dishwasher safe, as well as microwave, oven, and freezer safe.

My assessment

For me, the Rebel Club mug is the namesake of the new series – and you can tell. Moominpappa as a rebel who ends up establishing rules is a wonderfully self-deprecating story.

I especially like that the mug is set up like a little comic. You turn it in your hand and discover the scene bit by bit.

At 0.4 l, it is also a genuinely large mug for anyone who finds the classic 0.3 l just isn't enough in the morning.
