The Moominhouse

When you think of the world of Moomin, you likely have this house in mind. The characteristic blue Moominhouse stands in the middle of Moominvalley and is where Moominmamma, Moominpappa, and Moomintroll are at home.

The house is far more than just a building. It is the center of family life and a place where the most diverse inhabitants of Moominvalley come and go. Adventures begin here, friends come to visit, and after exciting experiences, everyone finds their way back here.

You can also experience the Moominhouse in reality: at Moomin World in Naantali, Finland, there is a Moominhouse that can be visited by guests.

A Moomin classic with a special history

The Moominhouse is one of the motifs that conveys the world of Moomin particularly directly. Unlike a simple character motif, this mug shows a place that represents the entire Moomin world.

The Moominhouse mug was originally offered as a special edition for the 70th Moomin anniversary and is now part of the permanent Moomin by Arabia range. A special feature of the original presentation was a red paper roof, which allowed the packaging or the mug itself to be styled like a small Moominhouse.

The classic Arabia shape

Underneath the Moomin motif lies the tried-and-tested, clean Arabia shape. It is simple enough to let the illustration stand out, and at the same time so timeless that the mug works perfectly in everyday life, regardless of the motif.

It is precisely this combination that I particularly like about Moomin by Arabia: Tove Jansson's stories and illustrations meet a functional Scandinavian tableware design. This turns a Moomin motif into a true everyday object.

Vitro-porcelain – robust for everyday use

The mug is made of vitro-porcelain. The material is designed for daily use and fits perfectly with the functional Arabia shape.

The mug is dishwasher safe as well as suitable for the oven, microwave, and freezer. This makes it not only a beautiful piece for Moomin fans, but a mug that can be used every day as a matter of course.

With a capacity of 0.3 liters, it is very suitable for coffee, tea, or hot chocolate.

My assessment

For me, the Moominhouse is one of those motifs that doesn't necessarily need to be explained through a single character. It represents the entire Moomin world and the place to which the stories always return.

I therefore particularly like this mug for Moomin fans who are not just looking for a specific character, but love the entire Moomin world. The blue house with its many small details appears friendly and quintessentially Moomin, without being intrusive.

And of course, the same applies here: it is a mug for using. The vitro-porcelain and its suitability for everyday use make it a practical piece of tableware – one that simultaneously brings a little piece of Moominvalley to your breakfast table.
