Gift of Love – Moomintroll and the Golden Tail

The illustrations in the Gift of Love collection are primarily based on Tove Jansson's 1958 comic "Moomin and the Golden Tail." In it, Moomintroll suddenly gets a golden, shiny tail tuft—and with it, attention, admirers, and invitations to fancy parties.

Other scenes are taken from the comics "Moomin's Winter Follies" and "Moomin Begins a New Life." The message of the collection is typically Moominvalley: you don't need a special occasion to celebrate—time spent with family and friends is reason enough.

Two sides, two scenes

One side of the mug shows Moomintroll and Snorkmaiden amidst stars and ribbons. On the other side, Moominmamma stands with a large yellow cake, surrounded by stars and gift packages.

This is how the mug captures exactly what Gift of Love is about: celebrating the little moments—with a piece of cake, a few gifts, and the people you love.

0.3 l – the classic Moomin mug

The Gift of Love mug features the familiar Moomin by Arabia shape with a 0.3 l capacity. A perfect size for coffee in the morning, tea in the afternoon, or cocoa with cream on a cold winter evening.

The mug is made of vitro porcelain. It is dishwasher safe and can also be used in the microwave—making it perfectly suitable for everyday use, even though it will certainly be a collector's item for many.

Gift of Love – the festive finale of the Year of Love 2026

In 2026, Moomin Arabia celebrates the 30th anniversary of the well-known Moomin Love mug and dedicates an entire year to the theme of love. Alongside Sweethearts and Loving Care, Gift of Love forms the festive conclusion to this anniversary year.

A special feature: In 2026, Gift of Love replaces the traditional winter seasonal collection. The color palette of dark green, mustard yellow, and beige with small red accents fits wonderfully with the Christmas season, yet does not feel too seasonal beyond that time.

Care instructions

The mug is dishwasher safe and suitable for use in the microwave, oven, and freezer.

My assessment

What I particularly like about the Gift of Love mug is that despite the Christmas green, it doesn't look like a purely Christmas mug. Stars, ribbons, and cake suit the Advent season, but are just as fitting for a birthday or a cozy Sunday.

The fact that Moomin Arabia is skipping the classic winter mug in 2026 to release Gift of Love instead makes this mug a special piece in the series of seasonal mugs for collectors.

And for anyone looking to give a Moomin mug as a gift, this motif says exactly what it's all about right in its name: a gift from the heart.
