Family Time – a heartwarming reunion
This motif captures one of the most beautiful aspects of the Moomin stories: family. The Moomin family gathers in front of the Moominhouse—a scene that conveys warmth, intimacy, and the joy of being together.
The illustration is based on the 1955 comic strip "Moomin and Family Life," making this motif a piece of early Moomin history. Tove Jansson tells the story of the Moomin world not just through adventures, but also through family, unity, and life together in Moominvalley.
The yellow color scheme emphasizes this friendly character. Together with the warm, cream-colored base, the mug appears bright and welcoming without being obtrusive.
The classic Arabia shape
The Family Time mug features the classic shape known from Moomin by Arabia. Its clear, timeless design provides plenty of space for the illustrations while making the mug an effortless companion for every day.
To me, this is exactly what makes the Moomin mugs so appealing: the motifs tell little stories, while the shape itself remains intentionally understated. This allows the mug to work just as well as a single favorite piece as it does in combination with other Moomin motifs.
Vitro porcelain – durable for everyday use
The mug is made of vitro porcelain. This material is designed for daily use and combines robust practicality with the clean lines of the Arabia tableware series.
The mug is dishwasher safe and suitable for the oven, microwave, and freezer. It is therefore not just a beautiful piece for Moomin fans, but perfectly intended for everyday use.
With a capacity of 0.3 liters, the mug is a comfortable size for coffee, tea, or cocoa.
My assessment
For me, Family Time is one of the most endearing Moomin motifs. It doesn't need a spectacular adventure to tell a beautiful story. Seeing the Moomin family reunited in front of their home conveys exactly the feeling that many associate with the Moomins: security, family, and life together.
I particularly like the yellow color scheme. It makes the mug friendly and cheerful, while the cream-colored base ensures it still feels pleasantly calm.
A beautiful mug for anyone who loves not just the characters from the Moomins, but also the stories and the special familial atmosphere that Tove Jansson created.
