Lapuan Kankurit Metsälampi (Forest Pond) Bath Towel / Sauna Towel & Beach Towel 95 × 180 cm

Metsälampi – Forest Pond

Metsälampi means "forest pond." Akira Minagawa was inspired for this pattern by a Finnish forest pond, on the surface of which raindrops form circular ripples after a downpour. I have deliberately kept the German translation in the product name so that the story behind the Finnish name is immediately understandable.

Lapuan Kankurit – Weavers from Finland

The textile family history of Lapuan Kankurit dates back to 1917. The weaving mill under the name Lapuan Kankurit was founded in 1973. Today, the fifth generation is already working in the family business. Their own weaving mill in Lapua combines traditional knowledge of jacquard weaving with modern production and an exceptionally transparent supply chain.

For its linen products, Lapuan Kankurit relies on traceable European long-staple linen. Many items carry the Masters of Linen certification. For me, Lapuan Kankurit is therefore one of those weaving mills where you can recognize the quality not only by the design, but above all by the material and workmanship.

Why linen at Lapuan Kankurit is special

Linen can absorb a lot of moisture while drying quickly. This exact combination makes it so appealing for sauna, bath, and kitchen textiles. The European long-staple linen used is traceable; for the appropriately labeled products, Masters of Linen confirms the European origin and processing of the flax.

My assessment

For me, these linen towels are among the strongest products from Lapuan Kankurit. The large formats in particular are excellent for the sauna and bath, but can just as easily be taken to the beach. Compared to heavy cotton terry cloth, they are very light, absorb moisture well, and dry extremely quickly after use. In my experience, linen towels also develop the typical damp towel smell much more slowly – as a result, they do not need to be washed immediately after every short use.
