Metsälampi – Forest Pond
Metsälampi means "forest pond." Akira Minagawa was inspired by a Finnish forest pond for the pattern, where raindrops create circular ripples on the surface after a shower. I have intentionally kept the German translation in the article name so that the story behind the Finnish name is immediately understandable.

Lapuan Kankurit – Weavers from Finland
The textile family history of Lapuan Kankurit dates back to 1917. The weaving mill under the name Lapuan Kankurit was founded in 1973. Today, the fifth generation is already working in the family business. Their own weaving mill in Lapua combines traditional knowledge of jacquard weaving with modern production and an exceptionally transparent material chain.
For its linen products, Lapuan Kankurit relies on traceable European long-fiber linen. Many items carry the Masters of Linen certification. For me, Lapuan Kankurit is therefore one of the weaving mills where you can appreciate the quality not only through the design, but above all through the material and workmanship.
Why linen at Lapuan Kankurit is special
Linen can absorb a lot of moisture while drying quickly at the same time. Exactly this combination makes it so interesting for sauna, bath, and kitchen textiles. The European long-fiber linen used is traceable; for products marked accordingly, Masters of Linen confirms the European origin and processing of the flax.
My assessment
What I especially like about this large linen cloth is its multi-purpose use. On the table, it is a high-quality tablecloth; just as easily, it can be used as a light linen blanket, for the patio, a picnic, or the beach. Precisely such versatile products justify high-quality linen for me.
