Soft Wool Baby – extra soft wool for the little ones

With Soft Wool Baby, the focus is not on the design, but on the material. For this baby wool blanket, Klippan combines 60% merino wool with 40% lambswool.

Why merino wool?

Merino wool is not only particularly fine. Like other high-quality wool fibers, it possesses natural temperature- and moisture-regulating properties.

The fiber provides warmth at low temperatures while remaining breathable and capable of absorbing moisture and releasing it back into the environment.

This combination is particularly interesting for a baby blanket: a good wool blanket should not simply trap as much heat as possible, but contribute to a comfortable climate.

65 x 90 cm – the classic baby format

At Klippan, we consciously distinguish between the sizes: 65 x 90 cm is the baby format, while the larger 90 x 130 cm blankets are better suited as children's blankets or as knee blankets for adults.

Only about 200 grams

The Soft Wool Baby also differs significantly in weight from some of the heavier Klippan baby wool blankets. With a wool weight of approx. 256 g/m² and a total weight of only about 200 grams, it is comfortably light.

This fits very well with the material used. Merino wool allows for a light, soft blanket that still provides pleasant warmth.

Light gray – intentionally simple

Klippan offers the Soft Wool Baby in light gray. Instead of an animal motif or bold children's colors, the focus here is on the natural quality of the wool.

Wool with a traceable origin

According to Klippan, the wool comes from sheep that are not subjected to mulesing. The program also sets requirements for animal welfare and responsible management of nature and the environment.

Klippan Yllefabrik – experience with wool since 1879

Klippan Yllefabrik is a Swedish family business whose history dates back to 1879. Its headquarters are still located in the town of Klippan in southern Sweden today.

Over generations, the original wool processing business evolved into a manufacturer that is now particularly well-known for its wool blankets and home textiles made from natural materials.

In-house production in Latvia

Manufacturing takes place at Klippan Saule in Latvia. There, Klippan has its own modern textile production facility and controls the essential stages of wool processing itself.

Klippan purchases the natural fibers and handles steps such as spinning, dyeing, warping, weaving, and brushing within its own production chain.

Especially with a simple blanket like the Soft Wool Baby, the material and processing quality are decisive. There is no large motif to distract from the textile itself.

Care – dry clean only

As a general rule, wool should not be cleaned unnecessarily often. The natural wool wax (lanolin) supports the dirt-repellent properties of the fiber.

Frequent airing and gentle shaking are often sufficient to refresh the blanket.

If a thorough cleaning becomes necessary, Klippan explicitly specifies dry cleaning only for the Soft Wool Baby. The blanket must not be tumble dried or bleached.

My assessment

For me, the Soft Wool Baby is, above all, a "material" blanket within the Klippan baby collection. It needs no animal motif and no famous designer – the uniqueness lies in the wool blend.

The 60% merino wool makes a clear difference. The blanket is soft, light, and at around 200 grams, significantly lighter than some of the heavier baby wool blankets made of pure lambswool.

If you are looking for an especially light and soft wool blanket for a stroller or nursery and prefer a simple design, the Soft Wool Baby is an interesting alternative to the classic Klippan baby blankets made from 100% lambswool.
