Rib – structure instead of a big pattern

For the new Rib wool blanket, Klippan does not focus on a large graphic motif, but rather on the structure of the fabric. The varied rib pattern creates a textured surface and gives the otherwise intentionally understated blanket its character.

That is what I particularly like about Rib. The blanket needs neither bold motifs nor a famous designer name. Material and weave structure are the focal point.

100% brushed lambswool

Klippan makes Rib from 100% lambswool. The surface is brushed, giving it a pleasantly soft and slightly fluffy feel.

Lambswool naturally possesses good temperature- and moisture-regulating properties. It keeps you pleasantly warm while being able to absorb and release moisture.

This makes Rib suitable for more than just very cold winter evenings. A good wool blanket creates a balanced climate and is therefore also comfortable during the transition seasons.

The rib pattern makes the difference

The name “Rib” describes the essence of this blanket quite accurately. Ribs of varying prominence give the wool surface depth and a clearly visible textile structure.

This is particularly interesting for a solid-colored or understated home textile: instead of creating the design through a print or a striking motif, the design is created directly through the textile construction.

130 x 200 cm including fringe

At 130 x 200 cm, Rib is generous enough to fully snuggle up in on a sofa or armchair.

A special feature regarding the dimensions: Klippan explicitly states the 200 cm for Rib including the fringe. This distinguishes the specification from some older Klippan models, for example, where the length was stated without the fringe.

A classic throw

Rib has fringe at the ends. It is therefore a classic throw.

For the German shop, “Wolldecke” (wool blanket) remains the most understandable term, of course. However, the fringe is an essential part of the model's character and gives the structured wool surface a slightly more relaxed finish.

Klippan Yllefabrik – experience with wool since 1879

Klippan Yllefabrik is a Swedish family business with a history dating back to 1879. The headquarters are still located in the town of Klippan in southern Sweden to this day.

From the original wool processing, it evolved into a manufacturer now known primarily for its wool blankets and home textiles.

In-house production in Latvia

Klippan produces its wool textiles at its own subsidiary in Latvia. There, the company has a modern machine park and masters key steps of the wool processing itself.

For Rib, I find this background particularly fitting. The design is not primarily created through an applied motif, but through the processing of the yarn and the structure of the fabric. This is where textile expertise is shown directly on the finished product.

Care – 30°C on the wool cycle

As with all good wool blankets, the rule for Rib is: wash as little as possible. Often, thorough airing and gentle shaking are sufficient.

If cleaning becomes necessary, Klippan currently recommends machine washing Rib at 30°C on the wool cycle or, alternatively, dry cleaning. Use only a low temperature when ironing.

My assessment

I find Rib an interesting new release because Klippan is not trying to define the blanket via a flashy pattern. The actual design lies in the fabric itself.

The rib pattern gives the surface depth, while the brushed lambswool ensures a soft feel. As a result, the blanket appears simple, but by no means boring.

With its 130 x 200 cm and the fringe, Rib is a classic throw for sofas and armchairs. Those looking for pure lambswool from Klippan, but who want neither a large motif nor a smooth standard surface, will find an interesting new alternative here.
