Little My – small, brave, and distinctive

Little My is one of those characters from Moominvalley that you can hardly overlook. After all, "little" only describes her stature—she certainly doesn't lack self-confidence, temperament, or determination.

On this grey wool seat pad by Klippan, Little My becomes a charming companion for the kitchen, dining room, terrace, or your next outing.

43 x 43 cm – warmth exactly where you need it

A wool seat pad is an amazingly simple everyday object that you quickly won't want to be without. At 43 x 43 cm, the Klippan seat pad fits many chairs and benches, creating a pleasantly warm seating surface.

It is, of course, especially nice during the cooler seasons. But wool also shows off its natural properties on a garden chair, balcony bench, or during a picnic or excursion.

100% lambswool

Klippan makes this seat pad from 100% lambswool. Wool naturally possesses properties that are extremely practical for a seat pad: it warms, regulates temperature, and absorbs moisture without feeling damp.

The natural wool fats also make the fiber relatively resistant to moisture and dirt. For this reason, Klippan explicitly recommends their wool seat pads for trips into the forest and nature.

Double-woven – beautiful on both sides

The seat pad is crafted using the same principle as Klippan's classic wool blankets. It is double-woven, with the motif appearing mirrored on the reverse side.

This means there is no simple, unfinished back. The weave and the Little My motif are part of the product on both sides.

Wool with a traceable origin

For this seat pad, Klippan uses lambswool from New Zealand from farmers licensed under Wool Integrity NZ™.

The requirements include standards for the responsible treatment of the animals. Klippan explicitly confirms that the wool used comes from sheep that have not been subjected to mulesing.

Additionally, the seat pad is certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 and has been tested for a variety of regulated and health-relevant harmful substances.

From Klippan to their own production in Latvia

Klippan Yllefabrik is a Swedish family business with a history dating back to 1879. The headquarters are still located in the town of the same name, Klippan, in southern Sweden.

Today, the production of wool products takes place in their own subsidiary, Klippan Saule, in Latvia. Klippan controls essential production steps themselves there: from spinning and dyeing to warping and weaving, right through to the final brushing of the wool.

This in-house production is an important difference to me. Klippan doesn't just have finished wool blankets made with their own label; they master the processing of the wool themselves.

Care – and actually machine washable at 30 °C

Wool needs to be washed much less often than many people initially think. Often, airing it out and gently shaking it off is enough to freshen up a wool seat pad.

If washing is necessary, Klippan currently specifies machine washing at 30 °C on the wool cycle for this model. The seat pad should be washed separately and not dried in a tumble dryer.

Bleach should also be avoided.

For home and on the go

At around 150 grams, the wool seat pad is light enough to take with you. It can be rolled up or stored flat and fits easily into a car or a larger bag.

This means it works not just on a kitchen chair or garden bench. On a picnic, during a hike, while camping, at a stadium, or on a cold bench while out and about, a piece of lambswool can be surprisingly pleasant.

My assessment

For me, Klippan's wool seat pads are a beautiful example of how little material you actually need to feel a significant difference. 43 x 43 cm of lambswool is enough to turn a cold wooden or metal bench into a much more comfortable seat.

With Klippan, there is the added benefit that the company truly masters the processing of wool. Over many decades, their own production facility has grown out of their traditional Swedish wool processing, where they now spin, dye, and weave, among other things.

And Little My fits perfectly on this product for me: small, uncomplicated, and always there. A Moomin seat pad that is interesting not only because of the motif, but above all because of the material and its actual function.
