Tree Hug – The Moomins and their love of nature

Forests, meadows, and the nature surrounding Moominvalley are a natural part of Tove Jansson's Moomin world. The "Tree Hug" motif captures this very close connection to nature.

100% lambswool

Klippan makes the Tree Hug seat pad from 100% lambswool. Wool naturally possesses properties that are particularly practical for a seat cushion: it warms and helps to regulate temperature and moisture.

The natural fats in the wool also make the material more moisture-resistant and dirt-repellent. This is exactly why Klippan recommends its seat pads not only for the home, but also for excursions into the forest and nature.

Double-woven – a Klippan product in small format

The seat pad is manufactured according to the same principle as classic Klippan wool blankets. The fabric is double-woven, so the pattern appears mirrored on the reverse side.

As a result, there is no plain, unfinished backside. The motif is part of the weave and not just printed onto the surface afterward.

Klippan Yllefabrik – experience with wool since 1879

Klippan Yllefabrik is a Swedish family business with a history dating back to 1879. The headquarters are still located in the town of Klippan in southern Sweden.

What began as a wool processing company has developed into a manufacturer that is now particularly well-known for its wool blankets and home textiles.

In-house production in Latvia

Manufacturing now takes place at the subsidiary Klippan Saule in Latvia. There, Klippan has its own textile production facility and controls essential work steps itself.

Among other things, wool is spun and dyed there, then the yarns are prepared for weaving, woven, and the finished wool textiles are brushed.

I find this important about Klippan: behind the name is not just a Scandinavian design label. The company itself possesses the knowledge and technology for processing wool.

For balcony, picnic, and excursions

A wool seat pad is not just intended for a chair at home. Weighing around 150 grams, Tree Hug is easy to take along and can be stored rolled up or flat.

At a picnic, camping, on a hike, or simply on a cold bench while out and about, the lambswool quickly creates a warmer and more comfortable seat.

I especially like the outdoor use with this specific motif: taking a Tree Hug seat pad into the forest actually fits the design perfectly.

Care – currently washable at 30 °C

Wool does not need to be washed after every use. Often, thorough airing and gentle shaking out are sufficient.

When washing is necessary, Klippan currently specifies machine washing at 30°C on the wool cycle for the Tree Hug seat pad. It should be washed separately and not tumble-dried. Bleaching agents should also be avoided.

My assessment

With Tree Hug, the product and the motif go together particularly well for me. A seat pad made of pure lambswool is a practical companion for outdoors anyway – and on top of that, there is a Moomin motif where the connection to nature takes center stage.

43 x 43 cm and around 150 grams make the pad large enough for a comfortable seat and at the same time small and light enough to take along on an excursion.

Above all, however, it is a genuine wool product. Klippan masters the material processing itself and manufactures its wool textiles in its own production facility in Latvia. For me, therefore, the Moomin motif is a beautiful addition to a product that is already convincing based on its material and function.
