Knut – a classic wool blanket from Klippan

For me, Knut is one of the uncomplicated classics in the Klippan Yllefabrik range. No grand motif, no unusual material mix, and no design that forces itself into the foreground – just pure lambswool, a generous size, and a beautiful selection of colors.

This is precisely why Knut is so easy to integrate into different interiors. The blanket works just as well on a modern sofa as it does on a classic armchair or at the foot of the bed.

100% lambswool

Klippan makes Knut from 100% lambswool. Before further processing, the wool is brushed. This removes short fibers and makes the wool quality more uniform and pleasantly soft.

Lambswool naturally possesses good temperature- and moisture-regulating properties. It provides pleasant warmth without simply trapping as much heat as possible under the blanket.

The natural lanolin in the wool also supports the fiber's dirt-repellent properties. That is why a good wool blanket needs to be washed significantly less often than many other home textiles.

130 x 200 cm – plenty of blanket to snuggle into

At 130 x 200 cm, Knut is one of the more generous Klippan wool blankets. A length of two meters makes a significant difference on a sofa or armchair: the blanket reaches comfortably from your feet up over your shoulders.

The dimension of 200 cm refers to the blanket itself and is measured without the fringe.

A throw with fringe

Knut has decorative fringe at the ends. In terms of classic textile distinctions, this makes the blanket a throw.

For the German customer, "Wolldecke" (wool blanket) is, of course, the most understandable term. However, the fringe is an important design detail that distinguishes Knut from plaids or blankets that have a denser, more compact appearance without fringe.

From smoke blue to saffron

One of Knut's strengths is its color selection. At Nordlichttraum, we carry the wool blanket in old rose, smoke blue, pink, nougat, dark gray, saffron, pine green, light gray, and orange.

As a result, Knut can either be integrated into an interior quite subtly or purposefully set a color accent. Light gray, dark gray, and nougat are particularly uncomplicated, while saffron, orange, or pine green bring significantly more color into the room.

Klippan Yllefabrik – experience with wool since 1879

Klippan Yllefabrik is a Swedish family business with a history dating back to 1879. To this day, the headquarters are located in the town of the same name, Klippan, in southern Sweden.

From its origins in wool processing, the company developed into a manufacturer known today primarily for wool blankets and other high-quality home textiles.

In-house production in Latvia

The wool textiles are manufactured at the subsidiary Klippan Saule in Latvia. There, Klippan has a modern machine park and controls essential steps of the textile production itself.

This is exactly what I find important for a classic blanket like Knut. Here, no spectacular motif needs to sell the product. The decisive factors are the selection of wool, the processing of the yarn, the weaving, and the final finishing.

Caring for wool properly

A wool blanket should not be washed unnecessarily often. The natural wool fat supports the fiber's self-cleaning and dirt-repellent properties.

For everyday care, I therefore recommend airing Knut outside regularly and giving it a good shake or carefully beating it. The wool fiber can regenerate itself very well, especially in slightly humid weather.

Every thorough wash or cleaning, however, washes away some of the natural wool fat. Therefore, the rule for a good wool blanket is: clean as little as necessary.

My assessment

For me, Knut is a classic everyday blanket from Klippan. It needs neither a special backstory nor a famous designer to be convincing. 100% lambswool, 130 x 200 cm, and a large color selection are the decisive arguments here.

I find the two-meter length particularly practical. Anyone who really wants to lie under a wool blanket rather than just cover their legs will quickly notice the difference compared to the shorter 130 x 180 cm models.

And the fringe gives Knut exactly the casual character I expect from a classic throw. An uncomplicated wool blanket that you can use every day – and that, for me, is its greatest strength.
