Gotland Check Midi – special wool in a handy size

The Gotland Check Midi combines one of Klippan's most interesting wool qualities with a practical 90 x 130 cm size.

Klippan combines 75% lambswool with 25% wool from the Swedish Gotland sheep. As a result, this small Gotland blanket features the same special material blend as the larger models in the series.

25% Gotland sheep wool

The Gotland sheep is an old Swedish sheep breed. Its wool differs significantly from standard white virgin wool: it is robust, possesses a natural luster, and at the same time feels pleasantly silky.

Klippan combines 25% of this characteristic Gotland wool with 75% lambswool. This creates a wool throw where the special wool contributes significantly to the character of the finished product.

Naturally gray

A unique feature of Gotland wool is its natural gray coloration. Unlike white wool, the dyeing process therefore begins on an existing base color.

This places special demands on the dyeing process, but at the same time opens up interesting possibilities. The natural base color influences the final shade and gives the colors a particular depth.

Klippan possesses a great deal of experience with the processing and dyeing of this wool. It is precisely with the Gotland blankets that it becomes beautifully apparent that wool quality and color cannot be considered independently of one another.

90 x 130 cm – knee blanket and larger children's blanket

At 90 x 130 cm, the Gotland Check Midi sits exactly between a small baby blanket and a large sofa throw.

For adults, this size is ideal as a knee blanket. When reading, watching TV, or working on the sofa or armchair, it provides warmth exactly where it is needed without requiring a two-meter-long blanket.

For children, 90 x 130 cm is already a nice, larger wool blanket. It can be used in the nursery, on the sofa, in the car, or while traveling, and it lasts significantly longer as they grow than a classic baby blanket.

In-house production in Latvia

Manufacturing takes place at the subsidiary Klippan Saule in Latvia. There, Klippan controls the essential steps of wool processing within its own corporate group.

Klippan purchases the natural fibers and handles, among other things, the spinning, dyeing, warping, weaving, and brushing themselves.

This experience is especially important for the naturally gray Gotland wool. Different wool qualities must be processed together, and the colors must be matched to the specific base color of the fiber.

Care – wash as rarely as possible

Due to the natural wool fat, wool possesses dirt-repellent properties and therefore does not need to be washed unnecessarily often.

In everyday life, we recommend airing the blanket out regularly and gently shaking it out. This protects the wool fiber and preserves its natural properties for as long as possible.

If a wash becomes necessary, Klippan currently specifies machine washing for the Gotland Check Midi at 30°C strictly on a wool cycle. The blanket should be washed separately and not tumble dried.

My assessment

I find the Gotland Check Midi particularly successful because two things come together here: a truly interesting wool quality and a size that is exceptionally practical in everyday life.

For adults, 90 x 130 cm is a handy knee blanket. For children, the same size is already a full-fledged, larger wool blanket. This makes it much more versatile than a standard baby blanket.

Added to this is 25% wool from the Swedish Gotland sheep. For anyone who likes the special Gotland quality from Klippan but does not need a large 130 x 200 cm wool blanket, this provides the same interesting material blend in a much more compact format.
