Gooseye – a classic of the Swedish pattern tradition

Gooseye translates to “goose eye” and refers to a traditional geometric weave pattern. Klippan considers the goose-eye pattern to be one of the best-known and most popular patterns in the Swedish textile tradition.

This pattern works exceptionally well on a cushion cover: it is clearly visible and graphic, while its regular structure provides a calm and timeless effect.

75% lambswool and 25% recycled wool

With Gooseye, it is not just the pattern that is interesting. Klippan also takes a unique approach to the material, combining 75% lambswool with 25% recycled wool.

For the recycled content, wool fibers and yarn remnants from production are repurposed. High-quality wool remnants are not simply discarded, but are instead processed again into a textile product.

By combining it with lambswool, the cushion cover retains the natural character and pleasant feel of a genuine wool textile.

The recycled wool determines the color effect

The repurposed wool remnants give Gooseye a characteristic, somewhat muted color effect. Each production batch is slightly different.

The wool and yarn remnants available can change from one production run to the next. Klippan therefore expressly points out that it is impossible to guarantee perfectly identical colors or color combinations for products made from recycled wool.

Slight color deviations compared to our product images or previous deliveries are therefore not a quality defect, but a natural result of using recycled wool fibers.

45 x 45 cm – classic format for sofas and armchairs

Measuring 45 x 45 cm, Gooseye has the classic format of a sofa cushion. The cushion cover can be used individually as a graphic accent or combined with other wool and cotton cushions.

This traditional weave pattern is particularly well-suited to natural materials such as wood, wool, and linen. At the same time, Gooseye is graphic enough to provide an interesting accent even in a modern interior.

Klippan Yllefabrik – Swedish textile tradition since 1879

Klippan Yllefabrik was founded in 1879 in the southern Swedish town of Klippan and remains family-owned to this day.

Today, manufacturing takes place at its own subsidiary, Klippan Saule, in Latvia. Klippan controls key production steps there itself—from spinning and dyeing to warping, weaving, and brushing the wool.

It is precisely this internal production that makes it possible to collect wool and yarn remnants and repurpose them for products like Gooseye.

Care – 30 °C on a wool cycle

Wool does not normally need to be washed after every use. Regular airing is often sufficient for daily maintenance.

If washing is required, the Gooseye cushion cover can be machine washed at 30°C, according to Klippan. Use only the wool cycle and wash separately.

The cushion cover must not be tumble dried or bleached. Ironing is possible at a medium temperature.

My assessment

I especially like Gooseye because it brings together two things that fit Klippan well: a traditional Swedish weave pattern and the sensible use of production wool remnants.

The blend of 75% lambswool and 25% recycled wool is much more interesting than the general term "virgin wool." The customer learns specifically what the cushion cover is made of and why its color effect can be somewhat more vibrant and slightly different from batch to batch.

At 45 x 45 cm, Gooseye is also easy to incorporate. For me, it is a classic Scandinavian wool cushion where both the material and the pattern are equally interesting.
