Joy – Scandinavian design by Bengt & Lotta

The "Joy" wool seat pad was designed by Bengt Lindberg and Lotta Glave. The Swedish designer duo has been working closely with Klippan Yllefabrik for many years and is known for their clear, often playful, and instantly recognizable motifs.

With Joy, two little birds are sitting on branches. The motif is graphically minimalist yet friendly – typical of Bengt & Lotta's designs.

43 x 43 cm – warmth for chairs and benches

Measuring 43 x 43 cm, the seat pad fits many chairs and benches. The lambswool creates a pleasantly warm seating surface, making a significant difference, especially on cool wood or metal.

This makes Joy just as suitable for the dining room and kitchen as it is for the balcony, patio, or garden bench.

100% lambswool

Klippan crafts the Joy seat pad from 100% lambswool. Wool naturally possesses properties that are particularly practical for a seat cushion: it provides warmth, regulates temperature and moisture, and remains comfortably lightweight.

The wool's natural oils also make the material more resistant to moisture and dirt. For this reason, Klippan explicitly recommends its wool seat pads for trips into the forest and nature as well.

Jacquard woven – not just printed

The Joy motif is not printed onto a finished seat pad. Klippan uses a double-woven jacquard technique.

This creates a mirrored pattern on the reverse side. Both sides are part of the design, and the seat pad can be used from either side.

Bengt & Lotta and Klippan

Bengt Lindberg and Lotta Glave are among the designers with whom Klippan has worked particularly closely for many years. Their animal, plant, and figure motifs can be found on numerous wool blankets and home textiles from the Swedish manufacturer.

Klippan also distributes products from the Bengt & Lotta brand internationally. The collaboration thus goes far beyond individual motifs for a single season.

Klippan Yllefabrik – experience with wool since 1879

Klippan Yllefabrik is a Swedish family business with a history dating back to 1879. The headquarters are still located in the town of Klippan in southern Sweden.

Over generations, the original wool processing business evolved into a manufacturer of wool blankets and home textiles that still masters the entire production process itself.

In-house production in Latvia

The wool textiles are now manufactured at the subsidiary Klippan Saule in Latvia. Klippan has its own modern machinery there and controls key production steps itself.

From processing the yarn to dyeing and weaving, all the way to the final finishing of the wool surface, production remains within the Klippan group of companies.

Care – 30°C on a wool cycle

Wool does not need to be washed unnecessarily often. In everyday use, airing it out and gently shaking it off is often sufficient.

When washing becomes necessary, Klippan currently specifies machine washing at 30°C on a wool cycle for the Joy seat pad. It should be washed separately and not tumble dried. Bleach should also be avoided.

My assessment

To me, Joy is a very typical Klippan item. The product itself is essentially very simple: 43 x 43 cm of pure lambswool. But the material, weaving technique, and great Scandinavian design turn it into something you love to keep visible on a chair or bench.

I find the connection to Bengt & Lotta particularly interesting here. The collaboration between Klippan and the designer duo has existed for many years and has produced a whole series of highly characteristic textiles. Joy is instantly recognizable as one of these designs.

And functionally, the seat pad remains exactly what it should be: lightweight, warm, easy to carry, and practical for use both inside the house and outdoors.
