Block – a pattern that never goes out of style
Sometimes a good wool blanket doesn't need a complicated motif. With “Block,” Klippan relies on a classic grid pattern made of large, clearly defined areas.
The design looks graphic and modern without leaning on a short-lived interior trend. That is precisely why Block can be combined very easily with different furniture and living styles.
Klippan itself describes the grid pattern as a classic that never goes out of style – and that hits the character of this blanket quite well for me.
100% lambswool
Block is made from 100% lambswool. This natural fiber provides warmth while simultaneously possessing temperature- and moisture-regulating properties.
This is one of the reasons why a good wool blanket feels different from a synthetic throw blanket. Wool is not simply intended to trap as much heat as possible; rather, it supports a pleasantly balanced climate under the blanket.
130 x 180 cm – the classic Klippan size
At 130 x 180 cm, Block has the classic format of many large Klippan wool blankets. The size is comfortably sufficient to snuggle up on a sofa or armchair.
At the same time, the blanket is very well suited as a visible home textile. Draped over the back of a sofa, an armchair, or at the foot of the bed, the large-scale grid pattern is particularly well showcased.
Three colors – three different effects
Klippan offers Block in green, rust, and blue. Although the pattern remains identical in all variants, the base color significantly changes the character of the blanket.
Green appears calm and nature-inspired, rust brings a warm, earthy tone into the room, and blue appears slightly cooler and more classic.
Especially with such a minimalist pattern, I like this selection: you don't have to choose between different motifs, but can select the blanket to match your own interior.
Wool with traceable origins
For Block, Klippan uses lambswool from New Zealand from breeders licensed according to Wool Integrity NZ™.
The program includes requirements for animal welfare and the responsible treatment of sheep. Klippan explicitly confirms that the wool used comes from sheep that have not been subjected to mulesing.
Additionally, the Block wool blanket is certified according to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100.
Klippan Yllefabrik – experience with wool since 1879
Klippan Yllefabrik is a Swedish family business whose history dates back to 1879. Its headquarters are still located today in the town of the same name, Klippan, in southern Sweden.
Over generations, the original wool processing evolved into a manufacturer whose focus today lies on wool blankets and other high-quality home textiles.
Own production in Latvia
The wool textiles are now manufactured by the company's own subsidiary, Klippan Saule, in Latvia. There, Klippan has a modern machine park and controls essential production steps within its own corporate group.
From processing the yarns to dyeing and weaving, all the way to the final treatment of the wool surface, Klippan retains its own expertise in the processing of the material.
To me, this is a significant difference between a traditional textile manufacturer and a brand that merely sells finished products under its own name.
Care – 30°C on the wool cycle
Wool does not need to be washed unnecessarily often. Frequently, it is enough to air out the blanket regularly and shake it out carefully.
If washing becomes necessary, Klippan currently specifies machine washing at 30°C on a wool cycle for Block. The blanket should be washed separately and not tumble dried. Bleaching agents are not suitable.
My assessment
For me, Block is one of those Klippan blankets that likely works for a long time precisely because the design is so simple. A clear grid pattern, three good colors, and pure lambswool – that’s really all it needs.
Anyone who isn't necessarily looking for one of the striking designer motifs at Klippan, but rather wants a classic wool blanket for many years, will find a very straightforward version here.
And it is precisely with such a simple product that the true strength of Klippan comes to the fore for me: the material. 100% lambswool and the experience of a company that has been concerned with the processing of wool for generations.
