Aurora – the colors of the Northern Lights

The name reveals the idea behind this extraordinary wool blanket: Aurora is inspired by the play of colors of the Northern Lights.

Instead of a classic repeating pattern, designer Maxjenny focuses on soft, flowing areas of color. The design is reminiscent of broad brushstrokes and transfers the shifting colors of an aurora onto a large wool textile.

This clearly distinguishes Aurora from many traditional Klippan blankets. It is both a wool blanket and an expressive piece of home decor.

Designed by Maxjenny

Aurora was created by Scandinavian designer Maxjenny. Her work is known for bold colors, expressive patterns, and an almost artistic approach to textiles.

With Aurora, this signature style fits the theme perfectly. After all, Northern Lights have neither a regular pattern nor clearly defined areas – colors move, blur, and change.

It is precisely this impression that Aurora attempts to capture with its soft color gradients and painterly surfaces.

100% lambswool

As unusual as the design is, Klippan remains true to its classic wool tradition when it comes to the material. Aurora is made from 100% lambswool.

Lambswool provides warmth while possessing the natural temperature- and moisture-regulating properties of the wool fiber. This creates a pleasantly balanced climate under the blanket.

For me, it is precisely this combination that is interesting: a very modern, color-intensive design on one of the most traditional materials that Klippan works with.

130 x 200 cm – slightly longer than many classic wool blankets

At 130 x 200 cm, Aurora offers extra length for snuggling up. You can fully cover yourself comfortably on the sofa or armchair.

At the same time, the size is ideal for using Aurora as a visible piece of home decor. Draped loosely over the back of a sofa or the foot of a bed, the large-scale color gradients show to their best advantage.

Pastel, Red-Pink, or Blue-Purple

Aurora thrives on its colors. At Nordlichttraum, we carry the blanket in different colorways, each giving the same design a completely different character.

Pastel appears bright and light, Red-Pink is significantly warmer and bolder, while Blue-Purple picks up on the cooler hues of the Northern Lights.

As a result, Aurora is less about a classic pattern where you only choose between different background colors. Every colorway changes the effect of the entire design.

Klippan Yllefabrik – experience with wool since 1879

Klippan Yllefabrik is a Swedish family business with a history dating back to 1879. Its headquarters are still located in the town of Klippan in southern Sweden to this day.

Over generations, the company evolved from initial wool processing into a manufacturer known today for wool blankets and home textiles with highly varied designs.

In-house production in Latvia

The manufacturing of the wool textiles now takes place at the subsidiary Klippan Saule in Latvia. Klippan possesses its own modern textile production facility there and controls essential work steps itself.

From processing the yarns to dyeing and weaving, all the way to the final finishing of the wool surface, a large part of the production remains within the Klippan group of companies.

This is particularly interesting for Aurora: the complex color design meets the company's many years of experience in processing wool.

Care – Aurora can be washed at 30 °C

In general, wool does not need to be washed after every use. Regular airing and gentle shaking are often enough to refresh a wool blanket.

If a wash becomes necessary, Klippan currently specifies machine washing at 30 °C on the wool cycle for Aurora. The blanket should be washed separately and not tumble dried. Bleach is not suitable.

My assessment

For me, Aurora is one of the more unusual Klippan blankets. If you automatically think of checks, stripes, or geometric patterns when you think of a Swedish wool blanket, you get something completely different here.

Maxjenny’s color fields look almost like a large painting. The design has plenty of space on 130 x 200 cm, and that is precisely why I would not keep Aurora in the closet. It belongs on display on a sofa, armchair, or bed.

At the same time, the material remains classically Klippan: 100% lambswool and manufactured by a company that has mastered the processing of wool for generations. This combination of traditional material and very modern design makes Aurora special to me.
