Model G – wool above the ankle
Model G is the warmest of the classic Glerups cuts. Unlike the closed Model A, the wool does not end below the ankle. The higher shaft also encloses the ankle, providing extra warmth, especially on cold floors and on chilly days.
Nevertheless, Model G does not feel like a classic, rigid boot. The wool felt and leather sole remain soft and flexible, moving with your foot.
100% natural wool – great even without socks
The upper is made of 100% pure natural wool. Wool has the special ability to absorb a lot of moisture while simultaneously insulating very well against the cold. This creates a pleasantly balanced climate for your feet.
Glerups are therefore perfect for wearing directly against the skin. This is especially pleasant with Model G: your foot is not confined in a lined, rigid boot, but is wrapped in soft wool right up past the ankle.
Soft leather sole for a natural feel
The sole is made of soft, vegetable-tanned calfskin. It protects the wool felt while walking but remains flexible enough for the shoe to adapt to the foot and its movements.
This makes this version come particularly close to a natural walking sensation. There is no thick, stiff sole construction between your foot and the floor.
The leather sole is primarily intended for use in apartments and houses. Anyone wishing to wear their Glerups regularly on the patio, in the garden, or while out and about should choose Model G with a natural rubber sole.
Lightweight instead of heavy winter boots
Depending on the shoe size, a pair weighs only about 377 to 492 g. This is remarkably light for an ankle-high shoe.
Exactly this low weight is part of the Glerups experience for me. Model G warms like a small wool boot, but doesn't feel like a heavy winter boot.
Not just for winter
One tends to think of a wool felt boot for cold winter days, but wool is much more versatile. It insulates against the cold and can simultaneously absorb moisture.
This allows Model G to be worn for a surprisingly large part of the year. It is particularly comfortable in a holiday home or anywhere floors get chilly in the mornings and evenings.
Care – wool needs little
Glerups recommends mainly airing out the shoes and letting them rest. The natural properties of the wool ensure that frequent washing is usually not necessary.
Stains can be treated carefully with a slightly damp cloth and wool soap. Then, allow the boot to dry completely at room temperature.
My assessment
For me, Model G with a leather sole is the most consistent Glerups for people who want warm feet at home but don't want to wear a heavy or stiff slipper.
The wool reaches above the ankle, while the thin leather sole maintains a very direct walking sensation. Plus, there is the low weight of less than half a kilogram per pair.
I would therefore advise those who walk mainly indoors to choose the leather sole. Conversely, those who want to enjoy the same warmth and freedom of movement outdoors on a regular basis are better served with Model G and a natural rubber sole.
