The art lies in the balance
A Flensted mobile appears light and effortless – but this very lightness requires a great deal of experience. The weight, distance, shape, and suspension of the individual elements must be perfectly coordinated so that the mobile maintains its balance while responding to the slightest movement of air. This knowledge of kinetic balance has defined the work of the Flensted family for generations.
Flensted Mobiles – family history since 1953
The story began in 1953, when Christian and Grethe Flensted created a stork mobile for their daughter Mette’s christening. This personal idea blossomed into Flensted Mobiles. To this day, the mobiles are handcrafted and assembled in Denmark on the island of Funen. Frederiksminde, the old schoolhouse near Brenderup, has been closely linked to the company and the Flensted family for decades.
The designs draw inspiration from nature, art, classic design, and aesthetics. The interplay of form, movement, and balance remains their hallmark.

My assessment
I chose this mobile because its motif, proportions, and movement work together in perfect harmony. During my visit with Ole Flensted in Frederiksminde, it became clear to me once again how much experience goes into a balance that ultimately appears completely natural. It is precisely this connection between design and technical expertise that I value in Flensted.
