Flensted Mobiles Starry Night 4 – Danish design in balance
The Flensted Mobiles Starry Night 4 is more than just a decoration: it is a kinetic design object whose effect changes with every slight breeze. Four three-dimensional stars rotate around a brass axis. Gold details and shifting perspectives create a modern, Scandinavian constellation.

The art lies in the balance
A Flensted mobile appears light and effortless – but it is precisely this lightness that requires a great deal of experience. The weight, distance, shape, and suspension of the individual elements must be perfectly coordinated so that the mobile maintains its balance while responding to the slightest air movement. This expertise in kinetic balance has defined the work of the Flensted family for generations.
Flensted Mobiles – a family history since 1953
The story began in 1953, when Christian and Grethe Flensted created a stork mobile for the christening of their daughter, Mette. This personal idea blossomed into Flensted Mobiles. To this day, the mobiles are handcrafted and assembled in Denmark on the island of Funen. Frederiksminde, the old schoolhouse near Brenderup, has been closely linked to the company and the Flensted family for decades.
The designs draw inspiration from nature, art, classic design, and aesthetics. The interplay of form, movement, and balance remains their hallmark.

My assessment
I chose this mobile because its motif, proportions, and movement work together in perfect harmony. During my visit with Ole Flensted at Frederiksminde, it became clear to me once again how much experience lies behind a balance that ultimately seems completely natural. It is precisely this combination of design and technical skill that I appreciate about Flensted.
