The art lies in the balance
A Flensted mobile appears light and effortless – but this very lightness requires a great deal of experience. The weight, distance, shape, and suspension of the individual elements must be coordinated so that the mobile maintains its balance while simultaneously reacting to the smallest air movements. This knowledge of kinetic balance has defined the work of the Flensted family for generations.
Flensted Mobiles – family history since 1953
The story began in 1953, when Christian and Grethe Flensted created a mobile of storks for the christening of their daughter, Mette. From this personal idea, Flensted Mobiles was born. To this day, the mobiles are handcrafted and assembled in Denmark on the island of Funen. Frederiksminde, the old schoolhouse near Brenderup, has been closely associated with the company and the Flensted family for decades.
The designs draw their inspiration from nature, art, classic design, and aesthetics. The interplay of form, movement, and balance always remains characteristic.

My assessment
I selected this mobile because the motif, proportions, and movement work together in a particularly harmonious way. During my visit with Ole Flensted at Frederiksminde, it became clear to me once again how much experience lies behind a balance that ultimately seems completely natural. It is precisely this connection between design and technical skill that I appreciate about Flensted.
