Ski – winter sports as a graphic silhouette
With the Ski candle holder by Bengt & Lotta, a winter scene is reduced to a few black lines and surfaces. The skiers are immediately recognizable and bring movement into the otherwise clear silhouette.
It is precisely this reduction that I like about the design. Bengt & Lotta need neither a painted winter landscape nor snow or mountains to clearly represent the theme of skiing.
Compact format weighing 500 g
At 17.5 cm in height and 16 cm in width, Ski is one of the more compact candle holders from Bengt & Lotta. It therefore also fits well on a windowsill, a smaller sideboard, or a shelf.
At 500 g, it is nevertheless a solid metal object. I find this information particularly helpful when buying online, as the cutout silhouette looks much lighter in photos than the candle holder actually feels.
Not just for the Christmas season
The ski motif naturally fits perfectly into the winter season. However, I would not limit the candle holder to Christmas. Anyone who skis themselves or has a special connection to mountains and winter sports can easily leave it out throughout the entire ski season.
The motif also fits very well in a vacation apartment or mountain cabin without immediately becoming classic alpine or après-ski decoration.
A gift idea for skiers
With this model, the gift idea is actually obvious. For an enthusiastic skier or winter sports fan, the motif is personal enough without needing to know their size, favorite ski resort, or any other individual information.
And even without a lit candle, the black skier silhouette remains visible as a small graphic object.
My assessment
I wouldn't tell a complicated story about the Ski candle holder at all. Its strength is that you understand the theme at first glance: skiing, winter, and movement.
At 17.5 cm, it is also much easier to accommodate than some of the larger Bengt & Lotta candle holders. For me, it is therefore not just winter decoration, but above all a beautiful and unusual gift for someone who really loves to ski.
