Sheep – sheep and lamb with a practical purpose

With the Sheep wall hook, Bengt & Lotta combine a sheep and its lamb into a clean black silhouette. Below the motif, there are four hooks, transforming the animal figure into a practical everyday item.

This is what I particularly like about this design: the sheep was not simply placed onto a standard hook rail. The motif and the function form the product together.

Four hooks on a width of 19 cm

With four hooks, Sheep offers a surprising amount of space on a width of just 19 cm. Depending on where it is used, it can hold keys, tea towels, small hand towels, or other lightweight accessories.

This makes the wall hook suitable not only for the hallway. It can also be used effectively in the kitchen, bathroom, or children's room. At 15 × 19 cm, it remains compact enough for smaller wall spaces.

The sheep is one of Bengt Lindberg's early animal motifs

The sheep is not a randomly chosen animal motif at Bengt & Lotta. Bengt Lindberg's story as a designer of these metal objects began with a cow. Then followed the sheep, the horse, and finally the moose, which became one of his most famous designs.

Even back then, the animals were depicted in a highly simplified way. This graphic signature is immediately recognizable in the Sheep wall hook as well.

Practical design for everyday life

A wall hook is fundamentally a simple everyday object. That is precisely why I find such products interesting: good design does not have to be limited to objects intended solely for decoration.

With its four hooks, Sheep fulfills a concrete task while simultaneously functioning as a small piece of black art on the wall – even when nothing is hanging on it.

My assessment

Among the small Bengt & Lotta wall hooks, I consider Sheep to be one of the more practical models. Four hooks on a 19 cm width are enough to actually create some order without having to mount a large coat rack.

At the same time, the sheep embodies a piece of Bengt & Lotta history. That makes the design more interesting to me than just any decorative animal hook: here, one of Bengt’s early motifs and a very everyday function meet directly.
