Mushroom – two sides, two different effects

The Mushroom board by Bengt & Lotta focuses on mushrooms. Instead of a lifelike depiction, the simplified shapes create a graphic pattern that covers the entire surface.

I find the differently designed sides particularly lovely. The bright, multicolored side looks friendly and lively, while the black and red on the other side create a much stronger contrast. The board can therefore be easily flipped depending on how the table is set.

Cutting board, breakfast board, and serving board

The term cutting board only really describes part of its capabilities. Measuring 20 × 40 cm, Mushroom offers enough surface area for cutting, but can just as easily be used for breakfast or for serving directly.

Bread, cheese, fruit, pastries, or small snacks can be prepared and then placed on the table on the same board. One item thus performs multiple tasks.

Laminated birch wood for daily use

The board is made of laminated birch wood and has a hard, smooth, and easy-care surface. It can be cleaned in the dishwasher after use.

Weighing 460 g, the 40 cm long board remains easy to handle. The hole at the end is also practical: Mushroom can be hung on a hook after use to save space.

Practical even with little storage space

Especially in a small kitchen, a vacation home, or a camper, items that perform more than just one task are useful. Mushroom can be used for preparing, eating, and serving, and then hung up to save space.

This combination of design and practical use is, for me, an important component of everyday Scandinavian design: a product should look good, but above all, it should work in daily life.

My assessment

What I especially like about Mushroom is that the two sides actually have a different effect. You are not just buying a cutting board with a pretty motif, but can consciously use it as a design element on the set table.

And the 20 × 40 cm format is very well suited for exactly that. For me, it is less of a classic kitchen board that disappears after cutting, and more of a breakfast board and small serving platter in one. The ability to simply hang it up afterward completes the concept.
