The Kiss – two people, one kiss
Bengt & Lotta need only a few lines for The Kiss to clearly tell the story: two people standing opposite each other, kissing.
Faces and other details are completely absent. It is precisely this that turns a personal moment into a clear graphic silhouette in which very different couples can see themselves.
31 cm tall yet very slender
At 31 cm high, the candle holder has a distinct presence, yet with a width of only 7.5 cm, it requires surprisingly little space. This makes it well-suited for a windowsill, sideboard, shelf, or a narrower table.
The weight of 800 g is an important detail: while the fine silhouette looks light, the candle holder itself is a solid metal object.
A gift for two
The motif makes The Kiss a wonderful gift for couples—for instance, for a wedding, an anniversary, or simply for someone with whom you share a special bond.
The design does not rely on hearts, lettering, or other typical romantic symbols. The kiss itself is sufficient as a statement.
A design object even without a candle
As with many metal works by Bengt & Lotta, The Kiss works not just as a candle holder. Without a candle, the black silhouette remains as a small graphic object in the room.
With a lit candle, the effect changes: light and shadow complement the two figures, making the candle holder particularly interesting in the evening.
My assessment
For me, The Kiss is one of the stronger Bengt & Lotta designs because the motif is immediately understood. The two figures are extremely minimalist—and yet, no one needs to explain what is being depicted.
I find it particularly successful that Bengt & Lotta avoid the usual symbols when it comes to the theme of love. No heart, no quote, and no exaggerated romantic flourishes: two people kissing. That is all this design needs.
